Beaches

The Halkidiki peninsula is located in northern Greece, 100 km southeast of Thessaloniki.

Today Halkidiki is one of the largest tourist centers in Greece. The blue crystal clear waters are combined with the endless golden beaches and green forests. The sandy strip is over 500 km long, and 47 of the beaches have the prestigious international Blue Flag award. The highest peak is located on Mount Athos – 2033 m. The climate is wonderful with more than 300 sunny days a year. On the peninsula you will find everything you need for a first-class holiday – warm climate, clear sea, picturesque nature, interesting monuments of ancient architecture, originality of picturesque villages.

Greek cuisine

Now, what is a holiday without consuming large amounts of food and enjoying a mug or a glass of wine, or maybe a few bottles? Fortunately, no other country makes food like the Greeks. Taverns are everywhere and are a traditional Greek place to eat. They are usually family and open all day. The menu is usually a selection of appetizers, small dishes that everyone at the table can share.

Tourism

Due to the natural beauty of the peninsula, rich history, traditional architecture and hospitality of the people of Halkidiki is a favorite destination of both foreign tourists and the Greeks themselves. The magnificence of alternating rocks and bays, sandy beaches and pine forests, warm sand and clear and clean sea water, as well as the coolness of the forests, combined with the comfort and luxury of the hotel complexes and seaside villas make Halkidiki one of the pearls of the Mediterranean. .

History

According to mythology, Halkidiki originated right where the sea god Poseidon lost his trident, throwing it angrily at the titans Athos and Sithon. The three blades of this trident form three small peninsulas – Mount Athos, Sithonia and Cassandra.

The peninsulas, bathed in the Aegean Sea, have become popular resorts, attracting tourists, Orthodox pilgrims, as well as active lovers of nightclubs and casinos.

Kassandra – picturesque nature, many famous hotels, modern rhythms and turbulent resort life. A favorite vacation spot for young tourists from around the world. Despite the fact that Cassandra is the most densely populated, it has kept its beaches clean.

Sithonia – a cozy place for lovers of elite recreation. There are casinos and wineries, a marina. A pleasant tasting of drinks from the best winemakers in Greece and even the acquisition of special gift wine sets is possible.

Mount Athos – a traditional place of worship for those who want to feel the incredible power and contact with ancient shrines.

The majestic Mount Athos rises 2,000 meters above sea level. The name of the peninsula in Greek means Mount Athos and only monks live here. The monasteries of Mount Athos are visited by more and more pilgrims every year, although they are only accessible to men and those who have received special permission. Everyone else who wants to get acquainted with the sacred place can walk along the bay, washing the inaccessible coastal rocks of Mount Athos.
